Development Update and Self-Catering bulletin | September 2019
Welcome to the September issue of Self-Catering News from SuperControl. By popular request, from now on you will receive these monthly rather than quarterly.
Don't miss the video from Robert in the How SuperControl is preparing for Payment Service Directive 2 (PSD2) article; it's a fantastic overview, summarising the legislationthat comes into force later this month.
There are a few small developments to share with you in this issue:
- If you add a Property Closed booking, you no longer need to answer the compulsory questions in your booking and enquiry form fields.
- When manually triggering an automated email, the correct default email address will display once the automated email is manually generated. (It used to default to the guest's email address even when the letter may had been assigned to an owner or housekeeper etc).
- Previously, when you added a booking via Bookings>Grid view, if Property closed was ticked that didn't carry through to an admin booking (only owner bookings). Now if this box is ticked it will remember this for an admin booking as well.
Booking.com integration development
Go to Integrations>Channel manager>International>Booking.com then click on Property settings. There are two new tabs in your Booking.com integration page in SuperControl's channel manager: Reviews and Opportunities (see below):
The Reviews tab enables you to see your reviews per property from Booking.com. Pleaselog into your Booking.com extranet to reply to a review.
The Opportunities tab shows you actions that Booking.com recommend to improve your listing performance on Booking.com. Click the Activate through Booking.com button to go to your Booking.com extranet to action the opportunity.
How SuperControl is preparing for PSD2
On 14 September 2019, new legislation called Payment Service Directive 2 (PSD2) will come into effect aiming to reduce fraud and make online payments more secure. For holiday rental owners and managers this means that when charging (or authorising) a card that is not physically present, or when charging cards remotely, you’ll have to perform Strong Customer Authentication (SCA). Here's what's happening at SuperControl.
Christmas bookings ... in August
With just 19 weeks to go, over half of the self-catering properties using SuperControl have a booking for the festive season (53%). This is up from 32% at the same time last year. It’s now that the number of bookings for Christmas and New Year start to really climb. As guests up their game in the search for the perfect yuletide break, here are three quick wins that will help you maximise revenue this Christmas (and next).
Marketing your holiday rental business: an overview
As a holiday rental owner, small or large, we know you have a lot of tasks to juggle to ensure the smooth-running of your business. Marketing your self-catering properties and the guest experience you offer is one of many. With new platforms cropping up regularly, major communication platforms (such as Facebook or Twitter) changing the way they work almost daily and the need to provide new and shiny content to entice guests to book direct it’s no wonder companies employ whole teams of people to carry out this part of their business. Don’t worry, this blog series isn’t going to advise you to hire a whole team of people to do your marketing quite the opposite actually.
What's coming next?
As we move into the shoulder season, it's the perfect time to get ready for the next rush of bookings in January. Investing some time to do this now will reap the benefits later - optimising prices and getting your auto-emails in place are a good place to start. So in the next few months look out for content on our blog and in the SuperControl Community on Facebook that will help you on your way.
With events season about to start, the team are looking forward to getting out on the road and meeting up with you at the best holiday rental events across the UK. Here's where you'll catch us.
