How to use Google analytics (Universal) to track booking and enquiry activity

Please note our preferred method of tracking is Google Tag Manager (GTM). Please read our Google Tag Manager help article here.

For iframes  -  Cross Domain tracking is currently not supported when using Google Analytics Universal.

Step 1 – enable e-commerce tracking and set up goals

Login to your Google Analytics account: http://www.google.com/analytics/

Select the relevant site:

Admin > Tracking Info > Referral Exclusion List. Add your website domain and secure.supercontrol.co.uk

Admin > View Settings > E-Commerce Settings. Select ‘Yes’ and change currency.

Admin > Goals:
Create a Goal > Goal setup > custom
Enter Goal name e.g. Online Bookings
Choose Destination from Goal Type
The Goal URL should be /availability/booking_summary.asp
Change ‘Equal to’ to ‘Regular expression’.
Save the Goal.

Create an additional goal for Mobile Bookings. The Goal URL will be: /availability/mobile/booking/booking_summary.asp

Create an additional goal for PayPal Bookings. The Goal URL will be: /availability/mobile/booking/psp_transfer.asp

For enquiry conversions from the availability enquiry form the goal URL will be: /availability/availability_enquiry_thanks.asp

For enquiry conversions from the standard enquiry form the goal URL will be: /availability/enquiry_form_thanks.asp

Step 2 – ask your web developer to add the tracking code to the head section of your own website

  *enter your UA code in place of ‘xxxxxxx-x in the scripts below. Your UA code can be found on your Accounts Home page of your Google Analytics account, it will look something like UA-4814162-1.
 *enter your websites domain name in place of test.co.uk’ in the scripts below. For example for  http://www.orroland.com we would enter ‘orroland.com’.

 <script>
(function(i,s,o,g,r,a,m){i['GoogleAnalyticsObject']=r;i[r]=i[r]||function(){    (i[r].q=i[r].q||[]).push(arguments)},i[r].l=1*new Date();a=s.createElement(o),    m=s.getElementsByTagName(o)[0];a.async=1;a.src=g;m.parentNode.insertBefore(a,m)    })(window,document,'script','//www.google-analytics.com/analytics.js','ga');    ga('create', 'UA-xxxxxxx-x', 'test.co.uk', {'allowLinker': true});    ga('require', 'linker');    ga('linker:autoLink', ['secure.supercontrol.co.uk']);    ga('send', 'pageview');
 </script>

Step 3 – Ask SuperControl to add the tracking code to your booking pages. Email support@supercontrol.co.uk with your Google Analytics UA code

After a couple of days and if you have had a booking, login to your Google Analytics account. Once you are in the reporting area click the ‘Conversions’ button (in the navigation down the left) > E-commerce > Transactions. This will report all of the bookings based on the date range you have chosen, since you added the full SuperControl tracking and enabled e-commerce tracking.

In order to see referrer activity, choose ‘Secondary dimension’ (from just above the report) > Traffic  Sources > Source.
