Drip Pricing Law updates

Updated on

There are new laws being introduced to ban unavoidable hidden fees to force businesses to be upfront with customers.

Click here for more information on the Government website.

To comply with The Digital Markets, Competition, and Consumers Act (DMCC), your business must support the new law around price inclusivity to consumers, no hidden fee’s are allowed when booking a holiday and the full total price shown to the guest must not change from start of booking to end (unless there are optional fee's). This law is already in place and is expected to come into force in Autumn 2024.

To aid you in complying with these laws we will be making some future changes to our booking process/system, such as;

  • Deprecating the default pricing capacity setting
  • Modifying the front-end booking process to clearly display the inclusion of security/refundable deposit costs.
  • Possible modification to the display of special offers and enquiry quotes. Deprecating any option to exclude default booking extra's in quotes and always including them by default, also making sure security and refundable deposit costs are clear.
  • Possible changes to the availability search display so price breakdown is clear

We wont be able to make the above changes immediately but still wanted to share our plans to help you. Any settings being deprecated we will be adding a warning icon and label next to them to inform you so you have notice and preparation time if needed. Alerts and e-mails will be sent out to also inform you of any updates or information.

Default pricing capacity deprecation

If you use Per per pricing in your price planner, e.g a price specific to a certain number of people attending a booking, then you will see you have the option at the top of the price planner page to set a default pricing capacity:

This means that when a guest is booking from your website, on the calendar they will see an immediate default price (when they click on an arrival date) based on a specific capacity. This setting means there is potential for an initial price to be shown to the potential guest, that can then change to a higher price when they change the capacity to one of that of a higher price. To comply with this immediately we simply suggest just removing the value from the default pricing capacity or setting it to the capacity of the highest priced capacity that you have. Removal date of this setting TBC.
