How do I send my iCal link to a channel for availability updates?

Updated on

iCal links are the most basic form of integration possible with a channel, and allow you to share your calendar availability with third parties. An iCal link will not send prices or guest details, they only block off availability to avoid double bookings. They will typically sync and update every 4-6 hours.

1. Go to Integrations > Admin tools > iCal Feed.

2. Click on “Individual properties” tab.

Note: You might not see all the tabs showing in the screenshot below depending on the kind of SuperControl account you have, e.g. Owner (Plus) or Agency.

3. Select and copy the link for the property / properties from the field Basic iCal feed.

4. Paste the iCal link into your chosen channel.

You can then make the iCal integration two-way by repeating the process the other way around.
This guide will explain how to achieve this.

Please note:
Auto-scheduled emails are not being allocated to iCal bookings.
As these bookings are meant to block off dates, any communication with the guest should be happing within the booking from where the iCal booking was forwarded from.

Can I exclude Ical bookings from the Ical export to stop conflicting loops?

If you want to prevent iCal bookings, which you have received, to be contained in the exported iCal feed we are sending, you need to exclude them from the feed.

Please note:
If they are not excluded,  a situation might arise were a loop is created where iCal bookings are being continually cancelled and newly imported.

  1. Go to Integrations > Admin tools > iCall Feeds > select the tab Individual properties.
  2. Select the option Exclude iCal bookings at the top of the page.

The change is automatically saved and the page refreshed.
By clicking this option the iCal feed URL will be amened to exclude iCal bookings. It will change form e.g.

https://api.supercontrol.co.uk/ical/3C0B2C973AFDC30D/property/20A24E2478FAB0C7/ical.ics

to

https://api.supercontrol.co.uk/ical/3C0B2C973AFDC30D/property/20A24E2478FAB0C7/ical.ics?ExcludeBookings=ical

The parameter ?ExcludeBookings=ical will be added to the end of the URL.

As the iCal feed URL has been amended the URL used by the receiving 3rd party or channel needs to be either exchanged or amended.
In order to do that you can either:

  1. copy the amended URL and paste it again into the receiving 3rd party or channel iCal import option
  2. amend the already existing iCal feed in the 3rd party or channel import option by added ?ExcludeBookings=ical to the end of the existing URL.

Please note:
Every time you leave the page where the option to exclude iCal bookings has been selected, it will revert back the selection and become unticked again.
