Setting up a pet fee

Updated on

There are two ways to set up a pet fee, which will allow guests to select the number of pets on Airbnb, whilst you are controlling the pricing for the pets in SuperControl.

Please note:
When you want to allocate the Airbnb pet fee to a booking extra, you need to create a booking extra, which is only used for the collection of the pet fee from guests booking via Airbnb.

This means you would have one booking extra for Airbnb and a separate one for your own website, two in total.

Please note:
The Pet fee is not itemised separately in the price shown to the guest by Airbnb. It is included in the overall price.

You can check your pet fee by going to the listing for your property on Airbnb.
First choose the number of guests and no pets, take note of the price, then go back to add a pet and see how the price has been changed.

Expand or collapse content 1. Using custom settings for the pet fee

To collect a pet fee using this method, you do not have to create a specific booking extra.
All you have to do is select the relevant settings in the Airbnb data section of a property.

  1. Go to Properties > Edit > select Web details -> Airbnb data in the drop-down menu > Go.
  2. Select the tab Booking settings and scroll down to the section House Rules

Please note:
The same settings can also be found in the Rates tab.
You only need to set the pet fee up in one of the tabs. The other one will be automatically updated.

  1. Tick the box in front of Pets allowed.
  1. Select Custom value from the drop-down menu.
  2. Add a price.
  3. Select how this price should be applied.

There are four options that can be combined:

Per group:
One price regardless how many pets are selected

Per Pet:
The price set up is charged for each individual pet.

Per booking:
The price will be charged for the whole length of the booking.

Per night:
The price is charged for each individual night.

Examples:

If you select: Per group and Per booking
The result will be: the price set up is charged no matter how many pets are brought or how long the booking is for:
--> £20 fee, 3 dogs being brought, 7 night stay
The guest will be charged £20.

If you select: Per group and Per night
The result will be: the price set up is charged for each night of the booking, regardless of how many pets are being brought:
--> £20 fee, 3 dogs staying, 7 night stay
£20 x 7 nights = £140; the guest will be charged £140.

If you select: Per Pet and Per booking
The result will be: the price set up is charged for each individual pet for the whole duration of the stay:
--> £20 fee, 3 dogs brought, 7 night stay
£20 x 3 dogs = £60; the guest will be charged £60.

If you select: Per pet and Per night
The result will be: the price set up is charged per individual pet and per individual night of the booking:
--> £20 fee, 3 dogs brought, 7 night stay
£20 x 3 dogs x 7 nights = £420; the guest will be charged £420.

Please note:
The booking extra can't be edited in the booking.
It will not be applied to a specific owner.

  1. Make sure you click Save at the bottom of the page.
Expand or collapse content 2. Using a specifically created booking extra

If you want to be able to allocate the pet fee to an owner, your agency or a third party, e.g. a cleaning company, you should use this option.
You will also be able to keep track of the income using the Booking extras report.

  1. Please create a booking extra, which will only be used for the collection of the Airbnb pet fee.
(Please see this help centre article for details on how to do this.)
  2. Go to Properties > Edit > select Web details -> Airbnb data in the drop-down menu > Go.
  3. Select the tab Booking settings. Scroll down to the section House Rules.
  4. Tick the box in front of Pets allowed.
  1. Select the Airbnb Pet Fee booking extra from the drop-down.
  1. Click Save at the bottom of the page.

The settings for the booking extra in SuperControl will be forwarded to Airbnb directly.

Please note:
The same settings can also be found in the Rates tab.
You only need to set the pet fee up in one of the tabs. The other one will be automatically updated.
